REFORMER PILATES IS NOT LIKE MATWORK.
Don't be fooled reformer pilates is not like matwork, sure you do good stretching in both and the foundational movement are similar across pilates classes,
reformer pilates will not be performed on a mat you will be on a carriage which is controlled by 5 different springs. The carriage moves back and forth and all exercises will be performed on it with the added resistance from the springs.
GRIP SOCKS ARE ESSENTIAL
Most if not ALL studios now require clients to wear grip socks on there machines not only for hygiene reasons but for the fact the grips socks will help assist with holding you on for dear life.
EACH SPRING HAS A DIFFERENT AMOUNT OF RESISTANCE
In my studio we have balanced body reformers which consists of 5 springs
1 blue, 1 yellow, and 3 reds.
Each spring represents a different resistance yellow is a lighter spring but boy oh boy that doesnt mean its easier at all. The springs work by strength meaning a light yellow spring might be easy to push out but its alot harder for you to balance, control and bring the carriage back in, as you are relying mostly on your own body strength and a small group of muscles to get you back to your starting position.
Pilates is 100% very challenging and somewhat scary to some. Trust yourself and your body you know your limits and your instructor is there to help. Believe in yourself and the movements so that you can fully embrace the power of pilates.
Be FEARLESS in the way you approach the exercises, your body will love it.
A WORKOUT FOR THE ENTIRE BODY.
The pilates workouts consists of small movement targeted to certain areas of the body to help strengthen, lengthen and tone the mucsles, were it may look easy to some go down and give a class a try you are bound to come out SWEATING,SORE & SURPRISED.
Classes start from beginner, intermediate to advance meaning there is a class for everyone.
MOST IMPORTANTLY ENJOY THE CLASS, HAVE A LITTLE LAUGH AND REMEMBER PRACTISE MAKES PERFECT.
